Digital Footprints

Morocco

In a far, remote village in Africa we heard from a bright, hopeful young student named Mariam Chakir and she was awarded a laptop! In an essay, she wrote to us how she understands “Technology facilitates communication across humanity, and made the whole world a village.” We believe Mariam will utilize this tech tool to open the world wide web of opportunities.

Atlanta

While in Atlanta in September 2019, The reTech Project collaborated with Dr. Myles and the Social Justice Café for Girls (SJC4G). Dr. Myles is an extraordinary leader and an advocate who brings attention to serious issues in her community including domestic minor sex trafficking, child trauma, and girls empowerment. It was a special opportunity to gift a reTech laptop at the 2019 SJC4G Experience event to a young girl who is recognizing her potential, appreciating her power and accepting that she is unstoppable in all of her pursuits.

Phoenix

In January 2020 reTech met Ky’rell, a young brilliant student with the opportunity to attend a private school on scholarship. His grandma told us, Ky’rell has plenty of homework assignments he has to complete on an online portal, but at home they do not have a computer for him to do his work. reTech gave Ky’rell an Apple laptop and he was uber excited to have access to software and programs like those he works on at school. Ky’rell is inspiring, and a reminder of the need we have in our local communities.

Chicago

reTech landed in Chicago in December 2019 and met with 826Chi, an organization and safe space dedicated to helping the youth in low-income communities find their voice through creative writing. The program elevates their work so they may be proudly published writers of the city! We are proud to have gifted a reTech laptop to Irma P., a talented student preparing to go to college in the following year. She is excited to use the reTech laptop to keep writing!

Liberia

Text: In 2019 reTech received a request from Liberia, and with the support of RPCVs we sent two laptops to support AgriLife and their mission to alleviate hunger and extreme poverty in Liberia. You can learn more about the organization here.
